Overall Week's Reflection

We started the week with a presentation crit about our projects; I got really good feedback from my peers and Frank and got my questions answered at the end (I asked quite a lot compared to the rest but so grateful they helped me out). I tried to get on with blowing up balloons using the helium canister I got from Tesco (surprisingly but at £25 yikes) but who knew I'd be faced with difficulty already just trying to open it. I got help from Jason and he made me anxious when he asked me if there was even helium inside it cause he said it "felt empty". Thankfully when I got back to the classroom to try, I managed to get 4 balloons up on strings too. The next day, obviously the balloons didn't last so I just blew up more to use in my first photoshoot. I got quite good shots of the balloons in the sky and it was really good weather too. I got Jazz to pose with the balloons to see what type of vibe I'd like- should've thought about the background cause the carpark had trash bins so that was an interesting background oops. After that, I asked Meg to do a photoshoot at the park across the road which I got better shots without much distractions at the back- the wind was a little annoying though because it made the balloon move/sway in a direction I didn't want it to (which is another difficulty I have to face with when photographing outside). I also tried to doodle some houses for the front cover as a test since it was suggested by my peers that I could have a home element in the front. I talked to Wendy and found out she hated it (whoops) and that I could make it less literal for the meaning of home and I could explore other options for the cover. She also suggested me a book to read to understand the grid systems by Josef Müller-Brockmann which I borrowed out from the library. That was because I guess you could say kinda horrendous publication layout on InDesign because previously I only used it for the 'style' project that only used photos so it was soooo much easier. (Also made the mistake of not saving of the first version of my layout before I started to rework on it.) Reading the book gave me more understanding of how to layout images and words together and Wendy just suggested I experiment with different layouts. Oh and on Thursday, I got a chance to go to Chelsea to do a branding workshop and it was really fun just playing around and experimenting using my initials to brand myself.
